Step by Step Grille Installation

Date Posted:19 March 2015

The way grilles fit into cars nowadays is quite simple as they are generally the first part that comes out when you have to repair something. When assembling a vehicle, the grille is the last item that goes on so it’s also the first item that comes off.

The way grilles fit into cars nowadays is quite simple as they are generally the first part that comes out when you have to repair something. When assembling a vehicle, the grille is the last item that goes on so it’s also the first item that comes off. This makes it easier to fit the part to pretty much any car, especially later model utes. If you are looking to fit a chrome grille to your ute, our step-by-step guide should help. This tutorial can be used on many different models.

Steps:

  1. Start with a flat bladed screwdriver and a 10 mil socket. This can also be done with a spanner, but it will take a little longer.
  2. You’ll see four points along the top – they’re just a plastic clip.

It’s very easy to break them if you don’t know what you’re doing with them. Once you work out how they actually work, it’s easy. Just slide the screwdriver into one of the grooves and then rotate the screwdriver to pop the centre up.

That makes it loose so you can just pull it straight up.

Repeat for all clips.

  1. Now remove the 10mm bolt using your socket from the front of the grille, in the middle.

Next, you need to take out the grille. Most people grab hold of it but can’t get it out and are worried it will break if they pull harder. Just pull it and it comes out. Don’t be afraid to give it a good tug.

  1. When the grille is out, it’s easy to remove the badge and install on the new grille. You should fit the badge prior to installing the new grille.

  2. Then you need to put the new grille in. Find the clips at the back.

Get the ones along the bottom of the grille lined up and push it in.

Once it’s in there, you just push it down.

You’ll feel them clip in. That locks it.

  1. Using the original clips and 10mm bolt, secure the grille in place by pushing the clips back in and tightening the 10mm bolt.

  1. Done!

Installing a new grille is a five minute job once you work out what you are doing. You don’t have to pay a mechanic or a panel beater, it’s that easy. Just give it a go!
